| This 1844 shows the Schleswig-Holstein provinces which were disputed by both Denmark and Prussia. Indeed two wars would be fought over these provinces and with the loss of Holstein and parts of Shleswig to Prussia, Denmark effectively lost its claim to Heligoland when Germany was created in 1871. |
