First Fleet Arrival


The arrival of the First Fleet in Australia transformed the dynamics of the Pacific Region. Despite many of them being reluctant colonists, the Europeans quickly appreciated the climate and economic opportunities along the east coast of Australia. They soon required goods and supplies and started trading with neighbouring islands and communities. The population of the European community grew inexorably so that they became significant and sustained political actors in the region.
