Indian Troops Assembled in Malta, June 1878

The Floriana Parade in Malta was the venue for an assembly of Indian troops on 12 June 1878. They were inspected by HRH the Duke of Cambridge who issued a complimentary order, ‘…His Royal Highness cannot speak too highly of their soldierly qualities. Their uniform good conduct and smartness reflects the greatest credit on all ranks. Their steadiness under arms and drill, and the excellent state of their camps leave nothing to be desired.’ They had arrived in Malta, from Bombay, on 27 May, and reached Cyprus on 23 July.
