The badge, worn on the blue bonnet, the glengarry and forage cap, was based around a three turreted castle representing Edinburgh Castle. The Royal Crest tops the badge; this was granted to the regiment by King George III in 1805. The Saltire of Scotland is laid over the title and the whole is surrounded by a wreath of thistles. The two regimental mottos are based on their Protestant origins, and are on scrolls above and below the circle.
