The gilt shoulder-belt plate and gorget are details from a portrait of Captain John Stewart who served in the regiment from 1780 but was on half pay for a period before rejoining as a captain in 1793. The rectangular belt plate has a Hanoverian crown above G R and 25 below. The border has a rope pattern.
The gorget is also gilt and has the Royal Arms engraved. Above that is the word EDINBURGH, indicating that the regiment was unofficially referred to as the Edinburgh Regiment, the title it had in 1689. In the two upper corners are 25 within a wreath. It is suspended on an orange ribbon that has white ribbon woven in. The gilt buttons are all marked with 25.
