The embroidered crown on the collar of this tunic identifies the rank as lieutenant-colonel. The crown on the other side is missing. Rank is also indicated by the gold lace and braid on the cuffs, shown clearly in this example. Field officers had gold Russia braid in small circles on the collar. Majors had them also above the lace on the cuff, but lieutenant-colonels and colonels had them both above and below the lace. There are eight large regimental buttons down the front and two on the back at waist level. The shoulder straps are simple gold cords with small buttons.
The dress sash next to the tunic is three lines of gold lace with crimson silk between. This is backed by red morocco leather. The runner and tassel are of gold and crimson. This was worn on state occasions, formal evenings and balls. For normal parades, officers had a plain crimson silk sash.
