The scarlet mess jacket has a blue collar, lapels and pointed cuffs. The gold braid on the cuffs has a trefoil at the point. The shoulder straps are the same pattern gold cords as on the dress tunic. The waistcoat is dark blue, edged with gold lace, including the pockets, and fastened with hooks and eyes but having gilt studs close together down the front. The date of these items is not clear; they do not conform to the Dress Regulations of 1864, 1874 or 1883.
The white leather waist-belt was worn in service dress, having lugs for attaching shoulder straps, and there are sword slings attached. The dress waist-belt is gold-laced with a crimson centre, backed with red Morocco leather. The sword slings are narrower than the waist-belt.
