Towards the end of William IV’s reign the design of the sabretache was improved so that the oak-leaf wreath filled the space more comfortably. The velvet ground can hardly be seen, although it would have been more visible in its original dark blue before it faded so badly to a yellow ochre. The WR reverse cypher has been foliated to help it blend in with the oak leaves. The WATERLOO scroll is once more placed directly below the cypher. The base of this specimen is more angular so that only a single crease is needed.
