The King's Royal Rifle Corps

Other Ranks’ Busby Badge c1910

This blackened bronze badge was worn by other ranks on the front of the busby in dress uniform. It is topped with a King’s crown which dates it after 1901 when Queen Victoria died. The most recent battle honours can be seen on the lower arm of the Maltese cross: SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902, DEFENCE OF LADYSMITH and RELIEF OF LADYSMITH. The badge belonged to Rifleman Stanley Thomas Beaumont who served in WW1 and was killed in action in France on 3 June 1916, buried in Beaumont Hamel. The photo of the badge was kindly supplied by Peter Taylor, grand nephew of Rifleman Beaumont.
