This blackened bronze badge was worn by other ranks on the front of the busby in dress uniform. It is topped with a King’s crown which dates it after 1901 when Queen Victoria died. The most recent battle honours can be seen on the lower arm of the Maltese cross: SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902, DEFENCE OF LADYSMITH and RELIEF OF LADYSMITH. The badge belonged to Rifleman Stanley Thomas Beaumont who served in WW1 and was killed in action in France on 3 June 1916, buried in Beaumont Hamel. The photo of the badge was kindly supplied by Peter Taylor, grand nephew of Rifleman Beaumont. |
