A hand-coloured photo that points up the height difference between the corporal with his South African medals and brass helmet, and the young boy who is in dress uniform tunic with aiguillettes and sword belt. He is wearing the musicians' pattern pill box cap with the 3 lines of yellow cord at the front. There does not appear to be a crossed trumpet badge on his sleeve.
