From 1830 the 9th Lancers were patronised by Queen Adelaide and titled the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers. The reverse A R cypher distinguished the Ninth so that this badge continued in use for the rest of the life of the regiment. Around 1843 the regiment changed the pouch to an all-gilt special pattern but with the same A R cypher.
