The front plate of the bearskin is brass instead of the previous black and silver metal plate. Bearskins were reserved for parades and dress occasions. On campaign the drummer wore a tall stove-pipe shako like the men. Likewise, the breeches and gaiters were reserved for parades, grey overall trousers were worn for campaigns.
In 1795 the red lapels on the drummer’s coat were discontinued and the coat fastened down the front, to the waist. The lace previously worn on the lapels was now worn on the chest of the yellow coat.
