This senior NCO is named as ‘Bouff’ Taylor. The photo is one of a set of six photographed at Edinburgh Castle in August 2023. The jacket worn by this man is a double breasted red garment, waist-length at the front but having turn-backs forming coat-tails. The collar, cuffs and shoulder straps are dark green. He is a Light Company Colour Sergeant, as indicated by the whistle and chain attached to his ammunition shoulder belt. His rank is indicated by the embroidered Colour Sergeant badge on his right arm and three silver stripes on his left arm. His shoulder wings are basically red with white lace stripes and edged with a white worsted crescent. The green cuffs have a red slash flap decorated with white lace button-hole loops. His white leather waist-belt has a bayonet hanging from a white frog at the back. A sergeant's crimson sash is also on his left shoulder, partially covering the shoulder-belt.
Although the jacket was worn on dress parades, his glengarry cap is an undress item. It features an array of badges; the central one being the regimental badge of St Andrew and his cross within a wreath of thistles. beneath that is the number 79. Above it is a metal triple chevron rank badge. Next to the regimental badge is a stringed bugle badge to indicate that he is in the Light Company.
