St Andrew and the saltire cross within a wreath of thistles was the silver badge worn on the undress cap of all ranks from the 1850s. The painting of Lieutenant Adam Maitland in 1852 clearly shows him wearing an undress glengarry cap with a badge of similar design. So the date of this example is difficult to determine. The badge continued to be worn by officers and men of the regiment up until amalgamation in 1961.
