This well known photo was published in the Navy & Army Illustrated in 1897, captioned Rissaldar Jehangir Khan, 1st Bombay Lancers. He wears a dark green kurta and has gold belts with a central scarlet stripe. The gold cords around his upper body are lance cap lines, serving no useful purpose but signifying the regiment’s status as lancers. The 1900 Army List says that the Bombay Cavalry regiments were to consist of 4 squadrons. The Indian officers for each regiment were to consist of one Risaldar Major, three Risaldars, one Wordie Major, 4 Risaidars and 8 Jemadars.
