The schematic representation of officers’ uniforms of the British army by C Marcuard in 1819 confirmed the uniform worn by the 10th Regiment since the turn of the century, showing the yellow collar and cuff style with silver buttons and lack of lace. The silver epaulette was worn only on the right shoulder by battalion company officers, and on both shoulders by field officers (majors and above). The item of most interest is the shako which had been adopted in 1816 to replace the Waterloo pattern. It was influenced by the headdress of the armies of continental Europe and for the 10th had a silver laced top and a silver badge on the front. The white over red plume indicated a battalion company.
This illustration is a modern-day copy of the original print. Marcuard produced 146 such schematics, spread over 12 pages. Page 6 showed the uniforms of the 9th to the 24th regiments.
