Other Ranks’ Shabraque Badge 1751


This detail taken from a Morier painting of a private of the 10th Dragoons of 1751 shows the device in the rear corner of his saddle cloth or shabraque. The Union wreath of roses and thistles surrounds X D embroidered in white. The front part of the shabraque had the Georgian royal cypher with X D below it. This was not especially a regimental badge as most of the other regiments used the same basic pattern.
