The Kofar Kadu, or Southern Gate, of the Gidan Rumfa (“House of Rumfa”), also known as the Gidan Sarki (“House of the Emir”), which is the name of the Emir’s palace in Kano, in the Hausa country, northern Nigeria.
The Kofar Kadu was originally built in the 15th century by Muhammad Rumfa of the Kano Sultanate on the same location of an even earlier gate, though the gate pictured is probably a 19th century iteration. It’s walls would have originally been plastered smooth. It has since been rebuilt again in a modern style.
Below shows the front entrance to the Palace in the 1930s.
