Hi every one, Im taking a course about the British influence on the Middle East at northwestern. I wanted to ask for any material you have, or any information for comparing and contrasting between both the ottoman empire and the british empire. Inaddition to examples of the "old empire" and the "New empire"
What do you mean between old and new, do you mean between the Ottoman and the British, or between the earlier and later British empires.
I would definitely class the Ottoman Empire as a continental kingdom turned contiguous empire. It was a feudal state which made use of vassal status. The British empire on the other hand was a mixture of economic and strategic colonies stretched over the entire globe. The motivations for the former were to expand the kingdom in order to better be able to defend itself. The British empire's expansion was more to enrich itself. The Navy was the security that the island of Britain needed. Extra bases helped - but really bases scattered over the world were more to defend the trade routes than to defend the mother country itself.
I mean by old and new, is how does history showcase that the Ottoman empire was an "old" empire and how to shows the opposite about the British empire as "new". If comparing and contrasting these two empires, how is this proven throughout history.
please back-up your thoughts, opinion and ideas with substantial facts and materials i can use in my essay.
