The Spice Trade

This picture of the Spice Trade shows an interesting if false image of Portuguese, English and Dutch ships all queuing up to take their turn at picking up the spices of the Orient. In reality, there was no such harmonious trading - it was cut throat competition that descended frequently into violence as each tried to maintain monopoly rights.
