Drake's 1585 Expedition against the Spanish

This is an interesting image detailing Drake's attack on the Spanish at Santiago in 1585. This was a campaign designed as a pre-emptive strike on Spanish possessions and shipping in an attempt to prevent Spanish treasure ships delivering its gold and silver to the Spanish king. This image shows Drake's men advancing on Santiago from the right, whilst showing the Spanish fleeing to the left. The settlement was sacked en route to the Caribbean.
