Europe in 1815

The Congress of Vienna tried very hard to return Europe back to its pre-Revolutionary borders. They resisted the temptation to rip up France but only because they feared that if they divided this kingdom up then other kingdoms might be up for division in the future. German statlets were consolidated but still were a confusing mass of miniature states who tended to seek protection from Austria or Prussia who both sought to extend their influence in the region. The 19th Century would see many national groups seek freedom and independence from the various continental empires and kingdoms. Greece, Italy, Germany were just some of the examples of national aspiration unleashed by the forces of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars.
