Imperial Horizons


This picture showing British tourists at the Ancient Temple of Abydos in Egypt illustrates that one important byproduct of the imperial exercise was an engagement, however unbalanced, with farflung parts of the world resulting in important scholarship and an awareness of a wider world and different cultures.
