This photo was taken in the Sampagha Pass after it was captured from the Orakzai tribesmen on 29 Oct 1879. Wounded men of the Yorkshires or 1st Queen’s Regiment are prepared for carrying in dhoolies. The dhoolie carriers can be seen, wearing turbans.
