William S P Lithgow was a Troop Captain in the King’s Troop RHA from 1956 to 1958, and commanding officer from 1958 to 1961. For 12 years he was Chef d’Equipe of the British Three-Day Event team and played a prominent part in the successful planning of many medal-wining ventures. In August 1961 Major Lithgow transferred to the 10th Hussars and in 1962 was promoted to lieutenant-colonel and appointed commanding officer.
