Edward Arthur Williams


Captain Edward Arthur Williams was killed in action at Orebyfontein on 9 Nov 1901. He was 32, born in June 1869. He joined the King’s Dragoon Guards as a 2nd Lieutenant on 18 June 1892, promoted to Lieutenant on 14 Nov 1894, and Captain on 4 July 1900. Captain Williams was in command of C Squadron on 9 November when they came across Boers in a strong position. He was shot in the stomach and died an hour later. His body was recovered after the Boers had stripped him of everything. He was buried the next day. The photo, taken c1899, shows him in undress uniform, scarlet serge frock tunic with blue collar, and blue and gold forage cap.
