On 20 Aug 1926, Colonel Chappell accepted a new Standard from Lieutenant-General J P DuCane at an impressive mounted parade at Dotzheim, Wiesbaden. The standard in question is most likely to be the one in this illustration. The two sides are shown, the one on the right has the battle honours won before WW1, while the two World Wars’ battle honours are displayed on the left. But in 1926 there would only have been the honours for World War One. As the left-hand view of the Standard has battle honours for World War Two it would be reasonable to assume that this Standard was presented to the King’s Dragoon Guards at some point between 1945 and 1958 during their final years before amalgamation. However, if that were the case the cypher in the centre would be either that of George VI or Elizabeth II instead of GvR, King George V who died in 1936. The battle honours were removed and rearranged so that 13 different honours appeared on each side.
