The quality of the gilt badge indicates that this sabretache belonged to an officer at some time in the 1830s. Also the three D rings at the top, for three slings, confirms this conclusion. Other ranks also carried sabretaches at this time, a fact we can be sure of because the paintings of Dubois Drahonet show a sergeant of the KDG wearing a similar sabretache but with only two slings. The shape of the sabretache conforms with the five-sided dress sabretaches for the heavy cavalry. The badge is the garter star with Hanoverian crown, KDG monogram and battle honour for WATERLOO. A Spooner print shows an officer of the KDG c1833 with an undress sabretache somewhat similar to this, worn with white leather belts instead of gold.
