King's Dragoon Guards


Frederick Courtney Longuet Hulton


Frederick Hulton was born in Newport Pagnell on 14 April 1864. His father was Reverend Campbell Basset Arthur Grey Hulton and his mother was Sarah Stokes Fletcher. He joined the King’s Dragoon Guards as a lieutenant 24 Nov 1886. Captain 18 Oct 1893. He was appointed Superintendent of Gymnasia, Dublin on 1 May 1894. Army Pay Department 1901. He was promoted to major on 1 April 1903 and was appointed second-in-command of the regiment on 14 June 1906. He took over command of the regiment from Colonel William Fergusson on 14 June 1910.

He was married firstly to Helen (Nelly) Emily Darvill, and secondly to Ella Rose Mary Bevis. They had three children; Rowena born in 1897 and killed in 1941, Frederick Richard born in 1910 and Diana Zannick born in 1922. Colonel Hulton died of pneumonia on Christmas Day 1940 at Besancon in France. The photo was taken in Norwich in 1894.
