The rank of trumpet-major was altered to sergeant trumpeter in the mid-19th century and not restored until 1928. The rank had the status of a sergeant but was shown on the right forearm as four inverted gold stripes with a gold embroidered crossed trumpet badge above. He has yellow cord aiguillettes on his left shoulder, and the tassels from his trumpet cords on his right shoulder. They are blue, yellow and red, but appear as dark because of the photographic process at the time. There are regimental eagle badges on his blue velvet collar and he has a Queen’s South Africa medal with several clasps.
