The drumhorse was photographed in 1879 from the front and side. This front view shows the detail on the drum banners. The left hand banner shows that SEVASTOPOL and PEKIN are on the right of the design, and the right hand banner shows WATERLOO and TAKU FORTS. The drummer wears a dress tunic with yellow cord aiguillettes on his left shoulder. There appears to be a dark patch on his chest but that is one of the horse’s dark ears. The bridle has a red horsehair throat plume.
