Officer’s Helmet Badge 1847

The 1847 pattern heavy cavalry helmet that introduced the falling horsehair plume was gilt with gilt fittings and this rococo shield badge on the front. The only silver part is the star on which is placed the gilt garter inscribed with the regimental title. In the centre is the VR cypher and Victorian crown above. A wreath of laurel and oak leaves frames the whole badge.
