This flat button is of copper alloy but gilded. The device was the basic button design that lasted until the mid 19th century when the K D G were changed from a serif type to Olde English. Although it was gilt, this button has a look of other ranks. The garter surrounding the letter is very worn but had the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE.
