The highly stylised monogram in the centre of this plate is the GR cypher of George III. The garter and motto surround it with a Hanoverian crown above and K.D.G below. Parkyn’s book on belt plates claims this to be an officer’s plate but it is quite plain compared with the officer’s belt plate on this page, so more likely to have been worn by other ranks. Parkyn also says it was silver but another source suggests that the gilt has rubbed off. As the KDG was a gold laced regiment it is unlikely that they would have worn a silver belt plate.
