This NCO is named as SSM Broadley who was the most senior NCO of A Squadron from 1902 to 1903. He is wearing his warrant officer class stable jacket which has gold lace along the top and front of the blue velvet collar and gold gimp around the bottom of the collar. His blue cuff is edged with partially quilted gold lace and his four chevrons are fully quilted gold lace. He has a spur badge below his embroidered Victorian crown. This was the badge of a Rough Rider or riding instructor. Below that is his regimental arm badge which was the same double-headed eagle as the officers’ dress collar badge.
He has gilt regimental badges on his collar and the same gold twisted shoulder cords as the Corporal in the 1898 photo. Broadley left the regiment in 1903 to be RSM of the Westminster Dragoons. The stable Jacket was out of date by 1903 and this photo may well have been taken at some point after 1903 as his badge collection includes a cap badge for the Westminster Dragoons.
