M A Hayes provided the artwork for this print engraved by J Lynch and published by William Spooner in his Oblong Series of 1840. The mounted men are in marching order which explains the valise on the back of the saddle and the rolled cloak in front. Their uniform is the red coatee with blue velvet facings and brass shoulder scales. The blue trousers have a broad yellow stripe and they wear white leather belts. The back view of a soldier adjusting the saddle or stirrups shows how the pouch-belt combined with the carbine belt, and how the spring clip for the carbine was also used to hold his gauntlets. The black leather pouch has no badge like the pouch worn by the sergeant in the 1832 Drahonet painting. There is also no yellow lace edging to the turn-backs on the coat-tails.
To the left of the picture a trumpeter stands next to a private in undress who has a waist-length stable jacket which is scarlet with blue collar, cuffs and shoulder straps. It is fastened down the front with six buttons. He has white summer trousers and short white gloves. His blue watering or forage cap is peakless and has a yellow cap-band and button on top.
