The artists Mansion and St Eschauzier chose to portray this officer of the King’s Dragoon Guards in marching order, as opposed to all the other heavy cavalry figures in the Spooner Upright Series who are in review order. The uniform is the same for both orders except that the belts are of white leather and the distinctive KDG shabraque has been replaced by a scarlet valise strapped to the back of the saddle. The dress sabretache has also been replaced by an undress black leather tache, adorned with a large garter star and crown.
The gold embroidery on his collar can be seen clearly in this print, but the four embroidered loops on his sleeve are mostly concealed by his white leather gauntlets. The white leather slings on his waist-belt support the sword scabbard. There are only two slings for the sabretache instead of the usual three. The white buffalo leather pouch-belt has a plain black patent leather ammunition pouch on his back. The brown leather bridle is ornamented with a brass head-chain and brass bosses where the straps join. The bit boss has the regimental garter star. The charger’s tail has been partially docked, leaving only a short tail. This agrees with the 1830 painting.
