The uniform introduced in 1812 lasted throughout the Regency and was replaced in 1820-21, after this print was produced. The officer in this William Heath print wears the 1812 helmet with trailing mane, and the 1812 plain jacket with gold lace edging. However, the white breeches and jack boots have been replaced by grey trousers which have a broad gold lace stripe. The shabraque agrees with that of the other ranks’ horse in the Hamilton Smith print of 1812, but it differs in having a black sheepskin cover on the saddle. This print was published on 15 Aug 1820 but a second state published later has the same figure wearing an elaborately gold-laced tail coat.
