This schematic illustration reproduced in ‘Waterloo Men’ by Philip Haythornthwaite (1999) shows the difference between the officers’ and mens’ uniforms. The gold train lace for officers extends from the top of the collar and follows the turn-backs which have an embroidered device at the join. The gold lace is also placed at the bottom of the tails whereas the other ranks did not have that. The shoulder straps are similar but for the officers are tapered and pointed. Both uniforms have lace gauntlet style cuffs. The waist-girdles differ in that the officers had crimson and gold and the other ranks had blue and yellow.
