General Sir Richard Foster Carter Foster KCB CMG DSO


Richard Carter Foster was born in 1879 and commissioned into the Royal Marine Artillery in Sep1897. He later held staff appointments and was awarded the DSO in WW1. From 1933 to 1936 he was Adjutant-General of the Royal Marines, the top job in that arm of the service. He did much to develop ties between the East Surreys and the Marines, and on 7 Mar 1939 was appointed Colonel of the East Surreys, until the end of June 1946. He died in 1966.
