Officer’s Helmet Badge, Victorian

The universal pattern for infantry officers of the line was this wreathed star with the garter surrounding the arms of Guildford on the cut silver star on a black velvet ground. The impressive Victorian crown dates it between 1881 and 1901. After that date the King’s crown was used. The badge was worn on the blue cloth covered home service helmet.
