Alan Edward Aflalo Jacobs from East London was commissioned on 9 Feb 1915, originally in the Civil Service Rifles. He was then attached to the 11th Bn Royal Fusiliers on 27 Mar 1915. In April he was transferred to the East Surreys and went to France with the 8th Battalion on 27 July 1915. He was awarded the MC on 23 April 1916 but was reported missing near Armentieres on 7 Aug 1916.
