The Yeomanry

Officer’s Dress Sabretache c1840

This sabretache was worn by officers of the North Hants Yeomanry. It has a blue face and silver lace surround. The crown is embroidered in gold and silver wire with crimson cushions. Below this is a silver metal rose. By 1840 the North Hants Yeomanry were still going strong. The South Hants yeomanry had been disbanded in 1838, although the Lymington Troop carried on without pay. There is a description of a South Hants sabretache which was worn between 1830 and 1838. It differed from this example in that there was S H Y embroidered instead of a metal rose.
