A Royal Visit to Croydon on 19 May 1896 produced this fine turnout of the Redhill Troop in Katherine Street. Surrey had no yeomanry since 1848 but in the 1880s a Troop was raised in Redhill as part of the Hampshire Yeomanry. They also had men from Sussex making them the strongest Troop. The 1891 inspection of the regiment noted ‘the special commendation which has been passed on the Redhill Troop.’
