Captain Lowther 1803


Captain Lowther was an energetic commander of the Fawley Troop in North Hampshire. The uniform he wears is typical of the first uniforms worn by the various independent Troops of mounted volunteer cavalry raised to defend Hampshire from French invasion. The jacket is blue with black velvet collar and cuffs. The buttons and braid are silver. His Tarleton style light dragoon helmet has a leopard skin turban and a white over red plume on the left side. He has a crimson waist sash with a black leather waist-belt to support his sword. He has a coat over his shoulders lined with brown fur.
