
Charles Shaw Lefevre took over command of the North Hampshire Yeomanry from his father of the same name who was the first commander of the Basingstoke Troop, the founding unit of the Hants Yeomanry. His father died in 1823 and Charles Jr commanded the North Hants Cavalry from 1831 to 1868. The portrait shows him in the blue and silver dress uniform of the Hampshire Yeomanry c1870 while he was Honorary Colonel (1868-1888)
