The Yeomanry

Isle of Wight Guidon 1800, 2nd Side

The other side of the 1800 guidon is less national and more local. The central device beneath a Georgian crown is a shield with a castle motif, with VECTIS written on the green ground, this being the Roman name for the island. The wreath consists solely of oak-leaves and acorns, and the scroll has the regimental title: ISLE OF WIGHT VOLUNTEER CAVALRY.
