Officer’s Gilt Button 1903

The new dress uniform of the Hampshire Carabiniers was first worn by the officers c1903. This gilt button, about one inch diameter, has the King’s crown and a garter inscribed CARABINIERS. The centre has HY in old English lettering for Hampshire Yeomanry, although the meaning of the two Xs is unclear. The small buttons on the tunic were of the same pattern.
