The dress uniform adopted in 1909 for the rank and file of the Hampshire Carabiniers was blue with white collar and cuffs. There were bimetal badges on the collar and brass titles on the blue shoulder straps. White piping traced the front edge of the tunic and extended for only 5 cms of the hem each way. On the back shirts the false pocket flaps were also edged in white, as well as the blue shoulder straps. There were nine brass regimental buttons down the front and smaller buttons on the shoulder straps and at the back of the waist. The white cuff was ornamented with a yellow cord Austrian knot which had two extra circlets as was customary for heavy dragoon regiments.
The blue and white striped lancer-type girdle was worn over the tunic, and if a sword was worn this would have been slung from white leather slings attached to a webbing belt worn under the tunic. The trousers accompanying this tunic are for dismounted duty and are blue with a double white stripe. There were buttons for braces, and straps to go under the instep of ankle boots. The blue and white forage cap was issued c1907, before the uniform. It was worn with both the dress uniform and the undress frock, replacing the pill-box cap.
