Unlike some of the yeomanry regiments the khaki uniform worn by the Hampshire Imperial Yeomanry was plain khaki. The officers in this photo served in South Africa in the 41st (Hampshire) Company IY. The officer seated in the middle is Captain Jack Seely. The other recognisable officer is 2nd Lieutenant Bernard Greenwell who is standing on the left of the photo. They wear field service caps on the right side of their head, but out in South Africa they would have worn the khaki covered helmet initially, then the slouch hat inspired by the Australian contingent. Khaki uniform was worn by the whole of the Hampshire Carabiniers IY for a few years after the Boer War. From 1905 the officers wore a khaki peaked forage cap in dismounted service dress.
